Evripidou 7

An ambitious project to set a local architectural example of adaptive re-use. Located in the heart of Kalamata the original building began construction in the late 60s without it ever being completed. Subsequently damaged by the earthquake of 1986, the project remained abandoned. Extensive refurbishment was conducted in 2023 under new ownership, from reinforcing the structural integrity of the building, to a total overhaul of all utilities and services along with the addition energy saving solutions reaching ZEB levels of energy efficiency.

While the structure and technology of the building is certainly upgraded to the standards of the 21st century, restoring the original character of the building was paramount to the design team in an effort to remain honest to the façade and architectural composition that was once intended when it was first constructed. Inspiration was drawn from Athenian modernism of the late 60s with use of Greek marbles, discrete lighting and classic color schemes, with a contemporary twist to certain details to subtly remind us of the present.
